I ran this game again, and I have some more stuff I would like to comment about the updated system:
- 1st: The spell list gave me (the dm) a thermonuclear headache trying to balance the 2 spells my players created, so I gave up and just allowed them bc if they are broken I can just tax them.
- 2nd: The players that didnt attempt to make their own spells also felt somewhat overwhelmed by choice with the spell list. Since I only run oneshots and dont go for a session 0, we spent too much time on that (like 1 hour) and when we finally played we only got like one scene done and we had to call it a day.
- 3rd: The crib economy on the current version is broken as fuck. It is very hard to lose money with it and one of my players attempted to just go back to the crib a bunch of times and farm money (of course I didnt let him do that unless he finished some kind of mission).
- 4th: For some reason we couldnt filter in the spell list, but thats probably a google docs problem.
- 5th: We had some trouble tring to figure out if the stats and the skills where separate things or not, and if skills had to be rolled separate. We just went with the raw skills.
- 6th: I didnt use height advantage or cover, but I used the grid for my session, it went well. Also I dont like D&D's initiative thingie, so I ignored that.
Next time I might just show my players like 2 spells of each color and tell them to figure out new spells or use those. Also, I want to try making them choose what spells they have when they need them, so if they need to cast fist and havent picked one of the spells they can get they can just pick fist and cast it.
Thank u for your feedback :3 it is appreciated. - Interesting to hear the choices were overwhelming. The spell list is just there for reference, there are also preset builds for each wizard included in the google doc Appendix I? Like you can just roll d6 to get a random spell. - The unbalanced economy is valuable feedback thankyu. That needs fixing - it's completely unplaytested lol. And yes, you only get money from the crib in between missions, not just by leaving and coming back like a video game lol. I'll make that clearer in the rules. - Only skills should be rolled when trying to do things, stats just give a bonus to your skills. I'll clarify that too
thank u most superb oomfie and long time shadow wizard fan <3 <3
Hi I finally updated this, you can see the SWMG-PHB google doc linked in the dowloads section. I've introduced a roll-under system and a ward system. The spell creation part is still unfinished. Hopefully the rules on skill checks and character creation are clearer for people who were confused by the one page pdf.
Hi, im back here because the author (im talking about you, asshole) said this game is trash on a youtube comment. Im here to remind you that this game is nuts, stupid, ugly and I love it. I will run it again this thursday.
When you are old, go back and take a look at this project, and maybe do a couple more playtests. You may be surprised by how good this is.
Also this is an ultimatum. You will update this game by september 6th or I will make a full hostile takeover of your company.
hey i FINALLY updated it with a full spell list, September 5, the DAY before you said. π«‘π«‘π«‘π«‘ i am unquestionably the best developer on this siteπͺπͺπͺπͺ
While I did not play this personally, I was given this feedback and I figured I'd share
"The Shadow Wizard Money Game was such a fascinating experience. Never have I ever played a ttrpg where even the descriptions were so chaotic and mind boggling that I question whether my character was the one doing crack or I was. Overall a 10 out of 10."

Me: I would like to cast fist.
DM: Sure, that will be $1d6.
Best action rpg system in the world.
Criticism:
Blue and green are overpowered.
Pink, cyan and orange are underpowered.
Also please put the skill check stuff in the next version of the rules, I dont want to chack dnd manuals to do that.
thanks for ur feedback b im glad you liked itπ
yeah its very much "rules lite" so if your players make broken spells then uhh πππ just ask them not to ig
ill keep this in mind if i update this proj
Your broken ass black hole spell now has an extra tax of 4d20$. Good luck casting thatβ€οΈ.
I'd sell my soul to make a game half as good as this.
i'll pay you $3d6 for your soul
